Polymer!

I started work with polymer again.  One reason was to get back into working with color, as I've been stuck in a rut for a while.  It's helped alot, and so has my work with Doug, the 'Color Master.'  He gave me some beautiful nature photography books to look through, and also my current favorite, a huge book on Lascaux.  Ahhhhh....the colors in those caves are gorgeous!  I'm playing with that palette at the moment so will post pictures of them soon.

Here are the first ones I've done so far.  These are works in progress, nothing is finished!

What a difference outside makes.

I have been fed up with myself for a while now, and will stop the whining about photos.  It's annoying and boring to read!  So today, with this beautiful sunshine, I headed outside.  THANK YOU SUN!

The sun not only improves my photography but makes me really really happy.

Fun with Enamel

It was a polymer clay and enameling day.  VERY good and refreshing for my recent artists' block.

What do YOU do when/if you get an artists' block?  Do you do something completely different, or put everything away for a while?  I found that I was obsessing over the camera, over looking at hundreds of pictures of jewelry, and watching jewelry technique videos on Youtube, and nothing was getting created.

So I took out my polymer clay, and started to mold shapes.  That got me into thinking about color combinations, and I played with those along with pigments and inks.

Then, I got out the enamel.  I had a few pieces of copper ready to work on, so I started layering on the color and a little sgraffito and started up the torch.

That last picture shows my muse.  I got her from a great Etsy sculptor named Daniel.  She sits on my desk whenever I'm working on something.  She reminds me of how GOOD it feels to create.  Plus I like to dance like her ;)  Hah!

Hope you had a great weekend,
Juliette

getting over the photography fear.

I know I'm getting better, but I've gotten a complete phobia about using the new camera.  I want to go back to my old Canon 1535 which is dependable but doesn't take really professional looking pictures.  Am I taking the easy way out?  I don't know.  All I do know is that I have to take pictures of new jewelry between now and Monday, and get them up and edited by Tuesday.

I know I"ll get over this silly self-imposed doubt.  It's just the push that makes me procrastinate.  I see so many beautiful pictures of jewelry out there and I think, oh come on!  You have a long way to go. But I won't know how hard the work is until I do more.

Blah blah blah - there's good news, too!  I'm showing on March 23 at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara.  So yes - there must be lots to show!

More tomorrow, including pictures.  xoxo Juliette
