Well...

Not as successful in the studio today.  I finished three pairs of earrings I have been working on all week (using the fire-painted copper and brass), but the ear wires I made just aren't working.  They aren't allowing the pieces to hang properly.  So, will try again with some sketches tonight and hopefully get them into the shop tomorrow.  My goal was to list them tonight, but that's not going to happen now.

Another 'realization' was that some of the pieces have scratches in them.  Argh!  I didn't notice how much they show up until I photographed them.  Some scratches are good - they add to the piece, but the ones I noted today need some TLC.

Harvest Festival :)

This Saturday is the Santa Cruz Mountains Harvest Festival, and while I was neither prepared nor ready to participate, I'm going down to pass out my business cards, wear some jewelry and hopefully get to talk to some people at the local jewelry shops.  :)  I'm excited, and it's a huge step but I feel ready!

Can't wait till tomorrow morning to work on the new pieces, I feel like a giddy school child ;)

A lot of work but SO much fun.

More copper painting today, and building my very first PMC ring...wheeee!

Working on those last two, which are still squares and don't have a design yet.

Will share the PMC pictures when they are finished.

In prep for Etsy's Holiday sales, this weekend's sale with 'Love My Art Jewelry', I reshot several pieces on a white background.  This is great fun, yet the light at my house shifts constantly due to the redwoods (I think), so some will have to be redone.  Here's a more successful one:

Okay, back to it!  Hope your day is going well.

Annealing and Painting on Copper Day

So much to do and so much fun had.  I feel like I've found myself again, after about 23 years. Thank You.

One piece, the half moon piece, is ready to be finished into the pendant I was designing.  The larger square piece to me looks like the top of the pendant, however.  Am going to play with this.

Lots of organization went on today, as I realized I had too many projects sitting out on the worktable.  I'm putting up an organization 'board' to help with Etsy plans, and am putting all supplies back in their places so that I can see where everything is again.  With several new projects for the Holiday season going on, it has to stay clean!

Looking forward to tomorrow.  (no, really) :)

It's almost here! Will you be there?

If you have some time on October 2, click on the picture above (I will repost as well) to see all the beauty and talent.  Hope to see you!

Notecards for the season.  This is a picture of a red Japanese maple I took last October.  :)

starting the Etsy Holiday Bootcamp, buddies, anyone? :)

first design. more to come.
Started off the Bootcamp today.I'm really grateful to Etsy for having such a thing, as it really helps to learn the 'ropes'.  So much to learn, and I feel like a goon preparing for the Holidays on September 24, but well, there you go. :)

So next step is to get going and market some things to the local stores.  I'm still gathering my 'marketing tools' together but will do it soon, am not lagging by any means.

Now I know what people say when they try to go into making art for a living - more than half your day is spent on marketing your products.

Working on/Playing with Patina today (on copper).   Hopefully will have something to put into the blog if not the shop soon!

Off to Ceramarama today, at the Ben Lomond Mountain Arts Center!  I'm hoping to find a 'kiln connection' so that I can make ceramic beads.

Have a wonderful day, all!

Love it when designs just feel right.

Today is one of those days when things feel so right, and designs come out quickly and into form.

Yellow opal 'rice' gemstone beads and handmade copper squares.

The other thing I loved was when going outside to photograph these, there was a beautiful piece of redwood 'bark' lying on the deck.  Copper against that beautiful redwood just works to me.

Have a fantastic Friday! :)

Where the Ocean meets the River

I love it when designs sometimes just spill out, waiting for you to form them.  The earrings today appeared in just that manner.  I named them for Yemaya and Oshun, Goddesses of Ocean and Fresh Water, respectively.

Getting ready to do some torch firing on copper sheet, but it has to wait a day, because I'm off to see the SF Giants tomorrow! (Guilty pleasure? Yes - but I love them so)

Have a wonderful day!

finding that drive again.

Long, long ago (late 1980s), I was a dancer. I bring this up because I was obsessed with everything I could do to express myself in the manner that was most joyful, the most 'ME' I could be.  When I got injured (long story), I went through years of trying to find that incredible drive again.  Not saying I've found it, but I am feeling closer to it than I have in a long, long time.  It's a combination of things this time, and there is a long road to get there, but THAT is what I remember loving so much about dancing - the excitement of the journey ahead.

The one thing I know that it does bring is a bit of isolation with the world outside, which (when seen from more adult eyes this time) sounds hermetic, hermetish, cocoon-like.  I feel I need to take this chance because the desire for that drive is still there, and it makes me stand tall and breathe deep.

Trying a few new things...to get the word out.

This Labor Day weekend has been busy - amidst transplanting new seedlings (yes, it's late but they're my marigolds!), house cleaning, etc. I've been working on 'marketing' for my jewelry and photography.  This is such a new process, but I'm up for the challenge.  I am trying out a site on Craft Launch (http://artintheredwoods.craftlaunch.com/), which was a tool listed on Etsy.  They give you two weeks free, and you can request their help in setting up your site.  So far, I'm not too excited about them, but I'll give it the full two free weeks.

I also joined Copper Wire Jewelers, which has been exciting because of all the contacts, information and friendly voices there!

Tomorrow I hope to start on some new copper pieces, with enameling hopefully happening later in the month.

Next step - approaching some local shops!  (gulp)  :)

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend,
Juliette

New avenues in jewelry making

I started forming my first copper and brass pieces from sheets.  I am branching out, working with enameling and metal clay.  Nothing to show as yet, but I'm hoping to have pieces in September! :)

Took more pictures of pieces today, as next Saturday (September 10) I'm having my first Etsy Showcase (on the Jewelry page)!  I'm excited and challenged, that's for sure!  It's time to dive in (smile).
